Amenitiz raises €39M to bring AI to Europe's independent hotels - Professional coverage

According to EU-Startups, Barcelona-based Amenitiz just raised €38.9 million in Series B funding led by Spanish fund Kfund through its growth fund Leadwind. The round included participation from Thayer Ventures and Columbia Lake Partners, with all existing investors like Eight Roads and Point9 sticking around. Since their 2022 Series A, they’ve exploded from 4,000 to over 15,000 hotel properties using their platform. These hotels have welcomed 15 million guests and processed a staggering €3 billion in bookings over the past 18 months. CEO Alexandre Guinefolleau, whose parents actually run a hotel, says this funding will accelerate AI innovation for independent hotels across Europe.

The independent hotel problem

Here’s the thing about Europe’s hotel market – over 80% of it is independent properties. That’s more than 750,000 hotels. But for decades, they’ve been completely underserved by technology built for big chains. Think about it – these are often family-run businesses trying to compete with Marriott and Hilton using spreadsheets and a dozen different systems. Amenitiz basically replaces that mess with one platform handling reservations, operations, payments, and revenue management. And they’re proving there’s massive demand – quadrupling their customer base in just three years.

Why investors are betting big

Pablo Ventura from Kfund called independent hotels “the backbone of European hospitality” and said Amenitiz is giving them the same digital advantages as chains without the complexity. But what’s really interesting is the timing. This isn’t happening in a vacuum – there’s a wave of hospitality tech funding across Europe right now. UK-based Nory just raised €31 million for restaurant AI, Austria’s chatlyn got €8 million for hotel communications, and several other smaller players are getting funded too. The market’s realizing that AI and digital transformation are creating what the CEO calls a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for small hotels to actually leapfrog the big guys.

Where the money goes

So what does €39 million actually buy you in the hotel tech space? Amenitiz says they’re going all-in on AI-driven product innovation, new revenue-generating products, and European expansion. They’re not just building better management tools – they want to put AI directly in the hands of every independent hotelier. Think about what that could mean: dynamic pricing that actually works for small properties, personalized guest experiences that rival what chains offer, automated operations that save hours every week. For hotel owners who’ve been manually juggling bookings and payments, this could be transformative.

The bigger picture

Look, the hospitality industry is at a real inflection point. Post-pandemic travel patterns have changed, guest expectations are higher than ever, and AI is suddenly making sophisticated tools accessible to smaller players. Amenitiz isn’t just selling software – they’re selling survival and competitiveness to an entire segment that’s been left behind. With 15,000 properties already onboard and €3 billion in bookings processed, they’ve proven the model works. Now the question is whether they can become what investors clearly hope – the default platform for every independent hotel in Europe. Given how fast they’re moving, I wouldn’t bet against them.
